Orlando Health: Clinically integrated network saved $89.9M

Orlando (Fla.) Health Network, part of the Orlando Health hospital system, saved $89.9 million in the past five years, according to the Network's 2018 Value Report.

Launched in 2013, the Orlando Health Network value-based program is the first Medicare Shared Savings Program ACO in Florida. In the 2016 MSSP year, Orlando Health earned a 98.4 percent quality score.

"Due to the close collaboration provided by the Orlando Health Network, patient care is coordinated across specialties, services and facilities," John Cappleman, MD, board chairman, Orlando Health Network, said in a news release sent to Becker's Hospital Review. "As a result, we hope to see patients paying less in out-of-pocket expenses and avoiding unnecessary visits to the emergency room, which is the most expensive level of care."

The Orlando Health Network manages more than 200,000 lives and $1.1 billion in annual healthcare spending. The network has more than 2,500 employed and independent physicians, as well as more than 1,500 advanced care providers.
