After several blocked attempts in the Missouri legislature to expand Medicaid, Republican lawmakers are now calling for a series of studies to analyze such a move, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Four separate research taskforces and legislative committees are being discussed by Gov. Jay Nixon (D) and GOP lawmakers to "have more eyes and hands working on the issue," According to the report. Gov. Nixon supported an expansion plan earlier this year that would have added an estimated 260,000 adults to the state's current 873,000 beneficiaries.
Republicans are doubtful the federal government will meet the $900 million funding commitment such an expansion would bring and have said growing the program would require reform first to ensure its long-term solvency, according to the report.
