The company that manages Prague (Okla.) Community Hospital failed to pay hospital workers Feb. 1, according to The Shawnee News-Star.
Three things to know:
1. This is the second time in recent months Kansas City, Mo.-based EmpowerHMS has failed to pay the hospital's workers. The management company missed payroll in early December, causing Prague Community Hospital workers to receive their paychecks a week late.
2. A federal judge appointed a special master on Jan. 29 to oversee the finances of a Tennessee hospital managed by EmpowerHMS. During the hearing, an official for EmpowerHMS testified that many of the hospital's financial issues will be resolved when the company receives a back payment of $1.9 million from the federal government. The company expects to receive the payment before April 1.
3. City officials filed a lawsuit in January against EmpowerHMS seeking to have a receiver appointed to assume operational control of Prague Community Hospital.
The lawsuit was recently transferred to federal court, according to The Shawnee News-Star.
