Ohio hospital to transfer outpatient psychiatric services

St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center in Cleveland plans to close its psychiatric emergency services unit June 30 and transition care to Cleveland-based MetroHealth's new psychiatric emergency department.

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center ended its inpatient and emergency room care Nov. 11, 2022.

The new psychiatric ED, which is expected to open this fall, will be on MetroHealth's Cleveland Heights (Ohio) campus, according to a June 20 news release shared with Becker's

St. Vincent and MetroHealth have worked with the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County (Ohio) to transition the services.

The three parties are also working to ensure continued care access and coordination with local emergency medical, police and fire services.

St. Vincent Charity employees affected by the change can apply for open MetroHealth positions.

Once St. Vincent's psychiatric emergency services unit closes, people needing psychiatric emergency assessment or treatment will be taken to the nearest appropriate emergency department. Emergency psychiatric evaluations will continue to be provided at all four of MetroHealth's EDs, the release said.
