Knoxville, Tenn.-based Paramount Matrix Healthcare is no longer being considered to take over Massillon, Ohio-based Affinity Medical Center.
Affinity Medical Center closed in February, and city officials have been fielding proposals from companies looking to reopen it. Earlier this month, city officials said Paramount Matrix was the leading contender to take over the hospital. However, Paramount Matrix was recently removed from the running based on the recommendation of city attorneys, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
The announcement came after one of Paramount Matrix's managing partners was named in a police report alleging fraud in Tennessee. David Dingwell, an attorney who advises the city of Massillon on legal matters, declined to comment on why Paramount Matrix was no longer being considered to take over Affinity Medical Center, according to the report.
On Sept. 10, Councilman Paul Manson announced that another group was back in the running to operate the facility. The company re-entering the process is one of the six companies that originally submitted a proposal.
