Inpatient and emergency services at Lawrence Medical are expected to end by mid-2025.
As part of the agreement, the hospital’s board will strike a 40-year lease agreement with Huntsville Hospital to operate outpatient services, according to the release. The structure will keep local involvement while shifting financial accountability and operational control to the health system.
Lawrence Medical Center board Chairman Gary Terry said 99% of the hospital’s patient encounters are for outpatient services, according to the report.
A facility assessment found that the hospital’s current building is beyond repair, according to the report. Local tax resources currently used to support hospital operations will be used to create a building fund to construct new and modern outpatient facilities.
