Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) used his line-item veto power to strike a part of the $62 billion state budget bill that would have banned the state from expanding Medicaid, according to a report by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Like a small handful of Republican governors, Gov. Kasich supported a Medicaid expansion but was foiled by opposition from legislators in his own party. Although lawmakers have completed the legislative session, the governor has said he will continue to push a plan to add nearly 275,000 people to the Medicaid rolls in the future.
