Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare received a $15 million donation, its largest single gift in the organization's history, which it will use to launch a new center for diabetes care.
The donation came from the Lift a Life Novak Family Foundation. According to an Oct. 4 news release, the gift is the first step toward the total project goal of $60 million. It will help create the Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute, expanding the current Wendy Novak Diabetes Center, and extending diabetes care for both children and adults.
"We are confident that with the strategic partnership with Norton Children's and Norton Healthcare, and the outstanding leadership of Dr. Kupper Wintergerst, one of the most renowned endocrinologists in the world, we can continue to climb the rankings and become the best practice institution others will want to emulate," said David Novak, founder of the Lift a Life Novak Family Foundation.
The expansion will create a dedicated resource center for diabetes education and research while providing outreach treatment practices across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
Norton plans to expand its programming, including maternal-fetal high-risk pregnancy and family planning programs, genetic and Type 2 diabetes care, and complex care management, according to the release.
