Amarillo-based Northwest Texas Healthcare System is laying off a "limited number of positions" due to the restructuring of certain areas and departments to increase operational efficiencies and reduce cost.
"Most of these positions are not directly involved in the front line of patient care delivery," Jason Barrett, CEO of Northwest Texas Healthcare System, said in a statement shared with Becker's. All impacted employees have been valued members of our team, and we are treating them with dignity and respect during this difficult time."
Calling it a "challenging time in the healthcare industry," Mr. Barrett said the system is working to support the affected employees, helping some transition to other open positions at the health system or offering eligible employees separation packages.
Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a 495-bed academic teaching facility and medical center. It has 1,880 employees, including 468 physicians, according to its website.
