Health News Florida, WLRN and WUSF have launched PriceCheck, a reporting project that aims to provide a comprehensive guide to healthcare costs in Florida.
For the project, the parties are teaming up with ClearHealthCosts.com, a health cost transparency company, to report on and collect prices of common healthcare procedures.
Using their medical bill and/or insurance company explanation of benefits, residents may contribute data for the project, such as how much they paid out-of-pocket for a particular procedure. They may also find prices in the PriceCheck online database.
In explaining why they launched PriceCheck, the parties said, "The rising cost of healthcare is one of the biggest problems we face as a nation. It's often impossible for consumers to easily find out the cost of healthcare tests, treatments and services. It makes for a complex, confusing and costly healthcare system."
