New York hospitals, providers face billions in Medicaid cuts

The Trump administration denied New York state's request to extend its Medicaid waiver program, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Feb. 25.

In the long term, the decision will mean $8 billion in Medicaid cuts to hospitals and health networks across the state, Mr. Cuomo said. In the short term, $625 million in funding will be lost, he said.

The Medicaid waiver expires March 31. New York state officials had requested a four-year extension for its waiver program, known as the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program, that aimed to reduce hospital readmissions and emergency department misuse, according to Buffalo Business Report
