The Federal Emergency Management Agency will send $103 million to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to help restore damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.
Hospitals that will be receiving the money include Bellevue Hospital, Coney Island Hospital, Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital Center. NYU Langone Medical Center previously received $114 million in federal aid.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he will keep pressure on officials to continue to provide aid as needed. Earlier this month, HHC estimated damage costs to its system at roughly $810 million. "This is not the end of the aid that these hospitals will need — not by a long shot — and we'll keep fighting until the hospitals have been fully restored."
The House of Representatives passed a $50.5 billion disaster recovery package Tuesday and is expected to pass the Senate early next week, though it's unclear how much of this money will go to benefit hospitals in the storm-affected regions.
