The Nebraska Hospital Association is pointing to the economic opportunity the state has if it expands Medicaid, according to a Nebraska Radio Network report.
The group is touting a study by University of Nebraska-Kearney professors, which claims that Medicaid expansion would support 47,000 jobs in Nebraska during fiscal years 2015 to 2020.
The study, which was funded by the Nebraska Hospital Association and AARP Nebraska, also shows Nebraska can avoid $1 billion in unnecessary state spending and bring in more than $2 billion in federal Medicaid funding during the next five years if lawmakers approve Medicaid expansion under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Nebraska lawmakers will debate The Medicaid Redesign Act this legislative session, according to the report. Approximately 79,000 Nebraskans would gain health coverage if the legislation passed.
