Columbia, Mo.-based MU Health Care has surpassed revenue expectations so far this year but anticipates costs for hospital upgrades, according to the Columbia Missourian.
Here are four things to know:
1, MU Health Care hospitals saw $58 million more in earnings than projected so far this year, said CFO Mike Blair, according to the report. System hospitals have also treated more patients than expected.
2, At the same time, Mr. Blair identified a need to reinvest money to improve facilities since there are looming capacity issues and many aging beds. He said such reinvestment would mean lower revenue for a while, but revenue would pick up once hospitals are operating at higher capacity.
3. MU Health Care also plans to spend morerevenue on its medical school. Mr. Blair, who began as CFO in May, said he expects the additional amount to be $6 million more than expected this year.
4. The Columbia Missourian reports University of Missouri System President Mun Choi called on MU Health Care officials to place more of a focus on philanthropic support to boost funding.
