Mountain View Regional Hospital in Wyoming Wants to Close ED

In a rare move, Mountain View Regional Hospital in Casper, Wyo., is seeking state permission to close its emergency department, according to a Star-Tribune report.

A spokeswoman for the Wyoming Department of Health said the department would "take a good look" at the hospital's application since hospitals are required to operate an emergency department in accordance to state licensure regulations. An immediate reason was not given for Mountain View Regional's application, although CEO Bill Stangl said the move would be the best for patients, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Wyoming Medical Center, also in Casper, said it is prepared to take on the additional patient load should the state approve Mountain View Regional's request to close its emergency department. CEO Vickie Diamond of WMC added her organization's emergency department is able to offer services that Mountain Regional currently cannot.
