Montana hopes to partner with the federal government to build its state health insurance exchange, and the government expects Montana to take over the operations of the exchange after it is fully functioning, according to a Billings Gazette report.
Regional Director at Health and Human Services Marguerite Salazar said in the report that it is too late for Montana to set up the health information exchange on its own and have it operating by the end of 2013. Both sides also hope this "partnership model" for building an exchange can be made available to other states.
Montana officials and legislators still need to pick a person or agency to head the exchange development since they did not pass any law granting authority during the most recent legislative session.
