MedKoder, a medical coding management and services provider, has devised a unique registered apprenticeship program to train future leaders in the medical coding profession.
MedKoder has worked with the Louisiana Workforce Commission to devise its new apprenticeship program, which has been officially approved for credentialing by the Louisiana State Office of Apprenticeships.
"The demand for trained workers in healthcare-related fields such as medical coding is growing rapidly in Louisiana," said LWC executive director Ava Dejoie. "MedKoder's registered apprenticeship program will be an asset in building the necessary skills to help people in our state fill these jobs."
The medical coding job market is expected to grow by 15 percent through 2024, more than double the national average of 7 percent for other industries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The apprenticeship program will span a two-year period during which participants will engage in on-the-job training, classroom instruction and one-on-one mentoring with coding experts. Company and state officials believe the apprenticeship will produce higher quality, career-ready professionals.
"As a good corporate citizen to the medical coding community, this apprenticeship program furthers our commitment to advancing the profession through the development of medical coders from entry-level to experienced professional," said MedKoder President and CEO Brian Audler.
