Since October 2013, when open enrollment began on the insurance marketplaces, approximately 8.65 million people have enrolled in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, according to a recent CMS report.
The preliminary estimates released in the report are based on enrollment data from 48 states and the District of Columbia that provided August enrollment data and baseline data from July through September 2013.
Here are five things to know about the increase in enrollment.
