MassHealth made $1M in improper payments for meds

MassHealth, Massachusetts' Medicaid program, improperly paid for nearly $1 million in prescription medications, a state audit found.

A report from the office of State Auditor Suzanne Bump found MassHealth erroneously paid for 25,144 prescription claims from January 2015 through June 2017. 

Ms. Bump said MassHealth's prescription processing system ran into failures. The system, called the Pharmacy Online Processing System, doesn't have systems in place to identify and deny improper claims, which ultimately caused the improper payments.
