Massachusetts long-term care hospital to lay off staff ahead of closure

Vibra Hospital of Western Massachusetts, a long-term-acute care hospital, will lay off all of its 87 employees by Aug. 15 ahead of the facility's planned closure, masslive.com reported June 19.

The Springfield, Mass., hospital currently has 29 patients who will be relocated to Baystate Health's Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, Mass., which will open in August.

Vibra Hospital, owned by Mechanicsburg, Pa.-based Vibra Healthcare, first announced plans to close in 2017, but the date was pushed back as the state extended its contract.

In 2021, Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health announced that the Holyoke facility would expand by 30 private rooms to accommodate patients that Vibra cared for under a contract with the state department of mental health.
