Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Barker line vetoed $222 million in spending for the state's Medicaid program, MassHealth, urging lawmakers to accept his proposal for Medicaid reform, according to MassLive.com.
Mr. Barker's reform proposal includes an employer assessment that would generate $200 million for the state's Medicaid program as well as an amendment that would block MassHealth eligibility for full-time workers with access to health coverage from their employers.
Lawmakers previously voted against dealing with the reforms during budget negotiations since they believed a more careful review was necessary.
The veto comes as the governor's administration expects the state's tax revenue to generate $749 million less than previously forecasted.
