Massachusetts community hospital posts 32nd consecutive operating surplus in FY 17

Attleboro, Mass.-based Sturdy Memorial Hospital posted a $2.8 million operating surplus in fiscal year 2017, which is its 32nd consecutive profit, according to The Sun Chronicle.

Operating expenses at the nonprofit hospital totaled $221.629 million in fiscal year 2017, which included $4.8 million in uncompensated care.

Some of the hospital's capital accomplishments in fiscal year 2017 included purchasing new medical technology, opening two new medical facilities and opening its medical surgical unit named Mildred McCann Balfour Unit.

"Our success is due to the tireless efforts put forth by every individual working together to care for our patients and the efforts of those who support and facilitate our caregivers," Sturdy Memorial Hospital President and CEO Bruce Auerbach, MD, told the Sun Chronicle. "Sturdy's leadership recognizes the vital work of our care teams as demonstrated by our investments in state of the art technology and facilities."
