Two hospitals in Baton Rouge, La. — Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center and Woman's Hospital — have announced plans to team up to provide breast and gynecologic cancer care in a soon-to-be-built facility.
Together, the two facilities will establish a new system of care that promotes a higher degree of physician collaboration, coordination and disease management for patients with breast and gynecological cancers. They will also share technology, individual clinical expertise and specialized cancer resources, according to Teri Fontenot, president and CEO of Woman's Hospital.
"Partnering with Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center is a natural progression, allowing us to unite our collective resources into a system of total care so women with breast and gynecological cancers will receive the highest level of expert care in the location most convenient for them," said Ms. Fontenot.
As part of the affiliation, Mary Bird Perkins-OLOL Cancer Center and Woman's Hospital will build the Center for Breast & GYN Cancer, a free-standing facility on the Woman's Hospital campus that is slated for completion in late 2016.
The new facility will be equipped to offer diagnostics, outpatient surgery, infusion and radiation therapy services. The center will also include physician offices.
