Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program has approved a $21 million loan to Manning (Iowa) Regional Healthcare Center, a 17-bed critical access hospital.
The 40-year loan, with a 3.375 percent interest rate, will be used to construct a replacement facility of the current hospital, which was built in 1927.
The new facility will feature a physician center, recovery center for substance abuse treatment and 17 acute-care beds.
Sen. Harkin is a senior member of the appropriations subcommittee that funds the USDA and the Rural Development Program.
