Kindred expects $20M hit from hurricanes

Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare expects to take a $20 million hit on pre-tax earnings in the third quarter of this year from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The company does not expect any impact beyond the third quarter.

"We did not sustain any significant physical damage to any of our facilities. Our operations in these geographies have now largely returned to normal, and we do not expect any meaningful lingering effects going forward," said Benjamin Brier, Kindred's president and CEO

In the areas affected by the storms, Kindred had 19 long-term acute care hospitals, approximately 100 home care sites, two inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, one sub-acute unit and roughly 100 external rehabilitation therapy sites.
