Kentucky Hospital Community Benefits Totaled $1.67B in 2010

In 2010, Kentucky hospitals contributed roughly $1.67 billion in net community benefits, according to a report from the Kentucky Hospital Association (pdf).

Of that total, $274 million went toward charity care. The categories that contributed most to the community benefits were bad debt ($435.5 million), Medicaid losses ($306 million), charity care and research ($259.7 million).


Additionally, Kentucky hospitals reported $150.2 million in Medicare losses, and $134.5 million went toward health professions education.
