Kansas Lt. Governor: State Medicaid Program Faces Bleak Future

Kansas Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer said the state's Medicaid program could be in dire straights unless reforms drive down costs and people make healthier decisions, according to a Wichita Eagle report.

President Barack Obama's recently announced deficit cuts to Medicare and Medicaid would greatly impact Kansas' Medicaid program, he said in the report. It is estimated roughly $720 million would be cut over several years.

Mr. Colyer added Kansas needs a system that incents employers to hire people with disabilities and provide care coordination to its neediest people.
