Kansas Hospital Association to present Medicaid expansion plan to lawmakers

The Kansas Hospital Association is preparing to present information to state lawmakers on expanding the KanCare system, which transfers management of Kansas' Medicaid program from the state to managed care organizations, according to a Wichita Business Journal report.

According to a study by the Center for Health Policy Research at George Washington University and Regional Economic Models, the KHA's plan, called KanCare 2.0, would lead to $35.7 million in net savings for the state from 2016 to 2020.

Although KanCare 2.0 will face opposition from lawmakers, KHA President and CEO Tom Bell told the Wichita Business Journal, "We can't keep ignoring this issue."

KHA expects to pitch the expansion plan to lawmakers early in the state's next legislative session, according to the report.
