In fiscal year 2012, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, based in Oakland, Calif., posted $2.6 billion in net income, a 30 percent boost from the $2 billion in net income from 2011.
Kaiser's non-operating income, which includes investments, more than doubled year-over-year — from $426 million in 2011 to $925 million in 2012. Kaiser's total operating revenue in 2012 increased 5.6 percent to $50.6 billion.
In the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2012, Kaiser's net income increased 7.4 percent, from $474 million to $509 million. Total operating revenue also jumped from $12.1 billion to $12.7 billion.
As of Dec. 31, 2012, Kaiser had more than 9 million members enrolled in its health plan, more than three dozen hospitals, nearly 17,000 physicians and roughly 173,000 employees.
