On Tuesday, Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente announced that it will be giving $1.5 million to nonprofit organizations in the Sacramento area, according to The Sacramento Bee.
These gifts are sponsored by Kaiser's "community benefit" program. The program assists in care and coverage for those who are underinsured or uninsured.
A total of 54 nonprofit organizations will be receiving grants between $5,000 and $97,000. These organizations include Soil Born Farms, KidsFirst, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento, WellSpace Health, and the Folsom Cordova United School District. The grant for Folsom will aid its Parent and StudentEngagementSummerAcademy by providing lunches for children during summer break.
The partnership with Kaiser "fosters innovation, news programs, new ideas and new ways to help us reach our common goal of improving, through education, the health and well-being of the children, the families and the communities we serve," Mary Ann Delleney, Folsom Cordova's health programs coordinator, said in a Kaiser news release.
