The Iowa Hospital Association (pdf) has released a policy brief stating that expanding Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care to the state's 118 hospitals is "the appropriate public health policy for Iowa."
The IHA said the Medicaid expansion is "good for the state" as well as for community hospitals in several ways: It would continue coverage for those under IowaCare, a Medicaid waiver program that insures 60,000 people, and expanded Medicaid payments would help offset the more than $2.3 billion in Medicare reductions Iowa hospitals face over the next 10 years.
Last week, the Ohio Hospital Association released a statement urging the state to opt into the Medicaid expansion.
