Iowa hospital fully reopens after tornado damage

Greenfield, Iowa-based Adair County Memorial Hospital fully reopened to patients Nov. 11, six months after it sustained damage following a tornado.

When an EF4 tornado hit May 21, the hospital sustained damage, especially to its lab and operating rooms. The estimated repair costs were between $3 million and $5 million, according to ABC affiliate WOI-DT.

Many of the hospital's operations were moved to Nodaway Valley Elementary School and mobile medical units. The hospital partially reopened some services in August.

The hospital's lab, emergency room, outpatient clinic and other facilities are now reopened, according to WOI-DT.

"It's been a lot for our employees and our staff for the past six months to go through all of this, but we're luckily back up and running,"  Adair County Health System CEO Catherine Hillestad told the news station.

Adair County Memorial Hospital is part of Adair County Health System, a Des Moines, Iowa-based MercyOne affiliate.
