CMS has provided ICD-10 Procedure Coding System updates for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2019, and ending Sept. 30, 2020.
Four takeaways:
1. The updated ICD-10-PCS codes are for discharges taking place in fiscal year 2020.
2. There are 77,559 ICD-10-PCS codes for fiscal year 2020 compared to 78,881 for fiscal year 2019.
3. For fiscal year 2020, 734 codes were added, 2,056 were deleted and two titles were revised.
4. Sections with the most ICD-10-PCS code totals for fiscal year 2020 are medical and surgical (67,257), imaging (2,941) and radiation therapy (2,019).
