Health insurer Humana posted profit of $199 million in fourth quarter of 2011, an 86 percent increase from 2010, according to a Humana news release.
Total revenue reached $9.06 billion in the fourth quarter, up 9.4 percent from 2010. For the year ended Dec. 31, 2011, Humana recorded net income of $1.42 billion, up more than 29 percent from 2010. Total revenue exceeded $36.8 billion for the entire 2011 fiscal year, an increase of almost 10 percent.
Humana increased its overall Medicare Advantage membership by 179,600 people, or 12 percent, from last year. Humana also raised its projections for FY 2012, as it expects to add an additional 40,000 members to its Medicare Advantage rolls.
