Humana to Buy Second Medicare Advantage HMO in Month

Health insurer Humana recently agreed to acquire MD Care, a California-based Medicare Advantage HMO, according to a Humana news release.

MD Care covers roughly 15,000 people in California and had 2010 revenues of $155 million.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction, which still must go through regulatory approvals, is expected to close in late 2011.

At the end of August, Humana announced its acquisition of Arcadian Management Services, a Medicare Advantage HMO that covers roughly 64,000 people.
