Indianapolis-based Indiana University School of Medicine will use a record-setting $400M gift from Indianapolis-based IU Health on a laundry list of projects and programs, the Indiana Daily Student reported Dec. 11.
The medical school will use the donation from IU Health, which operates a reserve fund 50 percent larger than the state of Indiana's, to support residency and fellowship opportunities aimed at encouraging more graduates to do academic or healthcare work in Indiana, the report said.
IU School of Medicine will use portions of the funds to increase diversity among its residents and to recruit faculty in subjects including surgery, radiology and pathology, the report said. An expansion of the school's MD/Ph.D program is also planned, as are bolstered support services for current medical students, including through scholarships, mental health services and academic advising.
Portions of the sum are being saved for research and will go toward lab renovations and clinical trial infrastructure, the report said.
