Reps. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) and Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), along with more than 30 other members of the House, have formed the State Medicaid Expansion Caucus to encourage "recalcitrant" states to expand their Medicaid programs.
"Twenty four states' decision to not accept billions of dollars in federal support defies logic and will prove catastrophic for the very people the Medicaid program is intended to help," Rep. Butterfield said on the issue. "The public is demanding action in states that have not expanded and members of the State Medicaid Expansion Caucus are tired of inaction. We will continue to press this issue until all 50 states have expanded Medicaid."
Healthcare advocacy group representatives from Families USA, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Coalition on Human Needs, the Catholic Health Association of the United States and the Georgetown Center for Children and Families support the representatives in creating the caucus, according to a news release. The caucus will advocate for Medicaid expansion and amplify all Medicaid-related issues through floor speeches, op-eds, social media posts, briefings and events.
