Hospitals to get 1.8% payment increase on end-stage renal disease treatment

Hospital-based end-stage renal disease facilities are slated to get a 1.8 percent payment hike in 2019, according to a proposed rule CMS issued July 11.

The potential rate changes to the End-Stage Renal Disease Prospective Payment System would take effect Jan. 1, 2019. CMS anticipates freestanding ESRD facilities would get a 1.7 percent payment boost.

The "proposed rule is one of several rules for calendar year 2019 that reflect a broader Administration-wide strategy to relieve regulatory burdens for providers, support the patient-doctor relationship in healthcare, and promote transparency, flexibility, and innovation in the delivery of care," according to CMS.
