HHS: Medicare beneficiaries saved $26B on prescription drugs since 2010

Approximately 12 million Medicare beneficiaries have collectively saved more than $26.8 billion on prescription drugs since the enactment of the ACA in 2010, according to HHS.

The savings from narrowing coverage gaps averaged $2,272 per beneficiary since 2010. In 2016, 4.9 million seniors and disabled individuals with Medicare saved $5.6 billion on prescription drugs, representing a 3.7 percent increase from 2015 when average savings totaled $5.4 billion for 5.2 million beneficiaries.

HHS also concluded about 40.1 million people with Medicare and Medicare Advantage coverage received at least one preventive service with no copays or deductibles in 2016. In addition, more than 10.3 million Medicare and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries went for their annual wellness visit in 2016.
