HHS Blocks Medicaid Co-Pays in California

The Department of Health and Human Services has denied California's effort to require Medi-Cal, or Medicaid, patients to pay for certain healthcare services, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Proposed co-pays for Medi-Cal recipients included $3 for prescription drugs, $5 for physician visits and up to $200 for hospital visits, according to the report.

HHS denied the measure, saying it would violate the Social Security Act and hinder the access of healthcare services for poor Californians.
