Health IT and RCM sectors saw 164 M&A deals in 2017: 5 takeaways

Greenberg Advisors, a revenue cycle management and health IT-focused investment bank, released its M&A Update analyzing deal activity in the RCM and healthcare IT sectors for 2017.

Here are five takeaways.

1. GA reported more than $19.5 billion in deal value across healthcare IT and RCM sectors in 2017. That's a 15 percent increase from 2016 and a 376 percent increase from 2015.

2. Healthcare IT and RCM deal volume reached 164 completed transactions in 2017, up from 130 the year prior.

3. Sixty-three percent of the healthcare IT and RCM deals in 2017 were for $25 million or less.

4. Pure technology companies appeared as sellers in 48 percent of healthcare IT and RCM transactions in 2017, according to GA.

5. Patient engagement and analytics were the most popular IT offerings appearing in healthcare IT deals.
