As of mid-January, roughly 9.5 million Americans have either chosen a health plan or were automatically reenrolled in one through the federal or a state insurance marketplace, according to HHS.
Of the enrollees, 7.1 million chose plans using the HealthCare.gov platform and 2.4 million were residents of states using their own marketplace platform, numbers that HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell was happy to see.
"We're pleased that, nationwide, 9.5 million people are signed up for Marketplace coverage," said Ms. Burwell in a statement. "The vast majority are able to lower their costs even further by getting tax credits, making a difference in the lives of so many families."
A vast majority, indeed. Approximately 87 percent of the consumers who enrolled using the HealthCare.gov platform selected a plan with financial assistance.
The deadline to enroll in a 2015 health plan through the marketplace is Feb. 15.
