Increased demand and the desire to meet the healthcare needs of the community has driven Gothenburg (Neb.) Memorial Hospital to initiate a major, 50,000 square-foot expansion.
GMH has already broken ground on the first phase of the project — a 3,900 square-foot, $3 million surgical addition — that is slated for completion in March 2015. The surgical addition is expected to help meet the demand created by an increased number of births and surgical procedures at GMH in the past year.
Altogether, the GMH expansion plan is estimated to cost $29.5 million and will incorporate a more holistic approach in accordance with input from focus meetings members of the community, hospital staff, and the hospital board. Holistic features will include a wellness center, healing garden, public dining area and outdoor patio, and a more cohesive building design.
GMH is awaiting approval from the United States Department of Agriculture for the loan package for the $29.5 million expansion plan.
