Georgia hospital lays off CEO, 3 other top-paid execs

Four of Habersham Medical Center's top executives have been laid off as part of cost-cutting measures before it joins Gainesville-based Northeast Georgia Health System on July 1, nowhaberbasham.com reported April 27.

Effective April 28, the Hospital Authority of Habersham County voted to get rid of Tyler Williams, president and CEO; Angie Harpold, COO and vice president of operations; Kesha Clinkscale, vice president of culture and wellness; and Susan McCrary, director of finance.

"We thank Tyler, Angie, Kesha and Susan for their service to our community, especially in light of the recent pandemic on top of difficult financial circumstances they inherited," Habersham County Hospital Authority Chair Dolly Ritchie said in a news release. "This was a difficult decision for us to make on a personal level, but it is the duty of our board to be the best stewards of HMC's finances."

Beginning May 1, Kevin Matson, Northeast Georgia Health System's vice president of facilities and support services, will serve as interim administrator for Habersham Medical Center in Demorest, Ga., according to the report. He will oversee day-to-day operations and will spend most of his time in Habersham County.
