Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System posted an operating profit of $74.8 million for the six months ended Dec. 31, 2014, up from $74.4 million in the comparable period of the prior year.
The six-hospital system's revenue increased to $2.2 billion in the first six months of fiscal 2015 compared to $2 billion in the same period of the preceding year.
The system attributed its revenue growth to an increase in net patient service revenue and an increase in premium revenue from Geisinger Health Plan.
The system experienced a 16.6 percent increase in admissions and a 26 percent increase in emergency room visits during the period ended Dec. 31, 2014. Membership in the system's health plan increased 7.3 percent compared to the prior year.
After accounting for a loss related to its investments, Geisinger reported net income of $89.4 million for the first six months of fiscal 2015, down from $264.2 million in the comparable period of the previous year.
