The Florida Chamber of Commerce is coming out in favor of the state using federal dollars so that low-income residents may gain health coverage, according to a report from The Florida Times-Union.
The chamber doesn't fully embrace the state's proposed Medicaid expansion plan, called "A Healthy Florida Works," which is supported by Associated Industries of Florida and the Florida Hospital Association, among others, according to the report. However, it is supporting the idea of increasing the number of insured Floridians, the report reads.
According to the report, the chamber has said in a new healthcare policy plan that a proposed expansion should result in cost savings for certain Florida workers and businesses. These would be workers and businesses that "pay higher insurance premiums to compensate for care provided to the uninsured," the report reads.
Additionally, the chamber also wants no more than 32 percent of the state budget to be controlled by the Medicaid program, the report reads.
