Analysts at Fitch Ratings announced they do not expect the outcome from the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to affect the outlooks or ratings of its hospital and healthcare companies.
If the Supreme Court ruled that some provisions, such as the individual mandate or Medicaid expansion, could not move forward, Fitch would "need to review those changes" to see if it could affect the credit profiles of some healthcare companies, but if the PPACA stands, Fitch will keep its current view that overall healthcare volume increases will be "somewhat offset by margin declines."
The Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments next week Monday through Wednesday.
