The following six health systems recently released their financial statements for fiscal year 2017.
1. Edward-Elmhurst Health, a three-hospital system based in Naperville, Ill., reported revenues of $1.37 billion in fiscal year 2017, which ended June 30, up from revenues of $1.25 billion in fiscal year 2016. Edward-Elmhurst ended fiscal year 2017 with operating income of $1.75 million, down 90.1 percent from $17.69 million in fiscal year 2016.
2. Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger's revenues climbed 14.3 percent year over year to $6.3 billion in fiscal year 2017. The system recorded operating income of $109.6 million in the fiscal year ended June 30, down 34.6 percent from $167.5 million in the year prior.
3. Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Health System recorded revenues of $6.2 billion in fiscal year 2017, up nearly 6 percent from revenues of $5.8 billion in the year prior. The six-hospital system's operating income dropped 26.9 percent year over year to $153.2 million in fiscal year 2017.
4. Philadelphia-based Temple University Health System reported revenues of $1.75 billion in fiscal year 2017, up from $1.64 billion in the year prior. The system ended the most recent fiscal year with an operating loss of $5.76 million, compared to operating income of $4.36 million in the year prior.
5. Kansas City-based University of Kansas Health Systemreported operating revenue of $2.1 billion in fiscal year 2017, compared to $1.7 billion in fiscal year 2016. The system recorded operating income of $73 million in fiscal year 2017, a 46.2 percent year-over-year decrease from $135.8 million.
6. Pittsburgh-based UPMCrecorded revenues of $14.3 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, compared to revenues of $12.8 billion in fiscal year 2016. The health system recorded operating income of $240 million in fiscal year 2017, down 22.5 percent from operating income of $310 million in fiscal year 2016.
