The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit has rejected Maine's lawsuit, which centered around an expedited approval from CMS on Maine's proposed Medicaid cuts, according to a Bangor Daily News report.
Judges denied Maine's case because "the facts do not warrant" the state to petition for a fast review process, according to the report. Earlier this month, Maine Attorney General William Schneider filed the lawsuit because it asked CMS to make a decision on Maine's Medicaid proposal by Sept. 1. CMS still has not ruled on the Medicaid cuts, which would cut $20 million and drop 36,000 people from Maine's Medicaid rolls.
CMS and Maine Gov. Paul LePage's administration did not provide comment. Those who opposed the Medicaid cuts praised the federal court's ruling, saying Maine's request was "purely political and a frivolous use of taxpayer dollars," according to the report.
