Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis is seeking a partnership to help keep its hospital in neighboring St. Paul from closing, according to the Star Tribune.
Fairview's financially struggling St. Joseph's Hospital could face partial or full closure in two years without a turnaround, hospital leaders said. The hospital, which has 105 beds for mental health and substance misuse treatment and sees about 220 patients a day, has posted annual operating losses each year for the past 10 years.
Fairview issued a request March 9 for partners to help save the hospital, according to the Star Tribune. Hospital leaders believe a partnership could help the hospital transform into a more competitive provider of inpatient and outpatient mental health services.
As a system, Fairview lost $96 million in 2019 and anticipates losses this year, according to the report.
